RaceRoom (PC) - Fanatec Recommended Settings

General Notes:
- The settings below are considered to be reasonable baseline values for RaceRoom (PC). They might not suit all tastes and driving styles, but they are a good starting point. Bear in mind that RaceRoom uses a dynamic physics engine covering a broad range of cars and tracks, meaning that these settings might not be 'optimal' for every possible driving scenario.

- In order to apply the suggested settings correctly, it is important to assign both the Tuning Menu values AND the suggested In-Game settings together.

- For the Podium Series settings, it is assumed that the Torque Key is being used.

- Automatic wheel range adjustment in RaceRoom can only be achieved when SEN is set to Auto (AUT) and you have enabled 'Match Setup' in Video>Advanced>Steering Animation.

- Countersteer assist should be set to 'Off' in the Assists Menu.

- The resulting output from these baseline settings is conservative when using the default 'per car' Steering Settings. The strength varies significantly by vehicle, therefore it is worth checking the in-game Clipping Meter, and adjusting the FFB Multiplier value accordingly. In doing so you can maximise the dynamic range of the FFB but lose some of the feeling of variety between car types.

- Please ensure you are using the latest firmware for all Fanatec devices.

    But I also edited the wheel profile file from Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\ControlSet\filename.rcs

    I changed these values:
    FFB steer force grip weight="0.35"
    FFB steer force front grip exponent="0.5"
    FFB steer force rear grip exponent="0.5"
    FFB steer force balance mode="0"

  • Anyone have issues with the cars not auto adjusting the steering lock on this game? I have SEN Auto and have changed the car steering settings to not render the hands, but feel like when a car normally has a 360 or 540 degree lock, then it doesn't seem to reflect that in game. I have to manually adjust the dd1's sen to 360 or 540.

    Make sure its in Comp v2.5 and the Auto will work correctly until they update the profile for the DD wheels.

    No need for 2.5 compatibility mode, just edit one file and let auto do its thing ;)

    I posted this on sector 3 forums a few days ago.

    Go to ..\Steam\steamapps\common\raceroom racing experience\Game\GameData\General
    Edit steering_wheels.xml

    Add in:

    <key type="uint32">462519</key> <!-- FANATEC Podium Wheel Base DD2-->
    <value>
    <vendorSpecificRangeLock type="bool">true</vendorSpecificRangeLock>
    <minWheelRange type="uint32">90</minWheelRange>
    <maxWheelRange type="uint32">1080</maxWheelRange>
    <alwaysCreateEffects type="bool">true</alwaysCreateEffects>
    <supportsSpringEffect type="bool">true</supportsSpringEffect>
    <supportsDamperEffect type="bool">true</supportsDamperEffect>
    </value>

    Not sure if the key will be the same (462519) for DD1 and DD2's but if not, go into your RCS controller file
    Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\ControlSet\YourFilehere.rcs
    Grab the ID from here:
    DeviceName[00]="FANATEC Podium Wheel Base DDx"
    DeviceId[00]="(462519, -1, -1, 0)"

    And change it in the steering_wheels.xml

    It will then automatically change DOR based on the vehicle, when set to auto ;)" />

    IMHO the recommended setting for the DD2 regarding "Collision effect: 50" is way too high. Even at 20% impacts can be very violent.

    Especially when you're mid-corner and got hit (or dive-bombed) by an opponent, the steering wheel gives you a massive smash. Not good for wrists and fingers.
  • edited May 2019
    Thanks Steven. I had to change the id for the dd1 but that fixed it. Your other ffb steer force settings cause quite a bit of oscillation. Surprised you aren't experiencing that. Thanks again.

  • Some buttons on Podium f1 wheel are not work in raceroom, please fix it!
    That's nothing Fanatec can fix because the issue is that Raceroom only supports max 32 buttons per device because it's so old. You have to ask Sector3 to finally update their game code to support more than 32 buttons, ideally even more than 64 because even with 64 buttons this wouldn't be enough for the Advanced Formula v2 wheel with APM. I have read they are testing a beta internally which supports more buttons but that is a news which is already half a year old and they still didn't released this beta to the public...

    Yeah, that is strange.  I get no oscillations, unless I changed something else in the file I forgot to mention..don't think so though.
    I did set FFB stationary friction="0.0"  but that only affects when stopped, it felt too notchy to me.

    Also, are you using RaceRoom with VR as well?

    Thanks Steven. Works like a charm.

    Also, are you using RaceRoom with VR as well?
    Yeah, the DD2.  I do play in VR, but mostly using triple 2560x1440's because I find it more comfortable, there is more peripheral (larger horizontal fov) and also I can have better crisper graphics.
  • Hey all...

    New to RaceRoom...

    I can't get the game to see my CSL Elite PS4 properly...  it knows it's there... but always says missing device, and I have to manually edit all the assignments, including the steering and pedals. Once I do that the wheel works...  but it's super annoying, because I get device missing messages whenever I go into the menu screens.

    Also, I see the settings listed here...  for some reason the steering ratio feels off in the game too...  I had to change the SEN on my base to 540 before it felt OK....  maybe the AUT setting wasn't working because the game doesn't load the CSL profile properly?

    I should add... this was installed on a brand new PC build just a couple of weeks ago, so it's latest WIN 10 Pro, latest Fanatec software, and latest RaceRoom build.

    Appreciate any insights.

    What did you change to get it recognised? I'm having the same problem with the same wheel base and the Mclaren wheel and the standard round wheel not being recognised.

  • I'm still having issues with Raceroom not recognising my peripherals, CSL Elite PS4, McLaren wheel, Clubsport pedals. I had some help over on the R3E forum but the issue persists - conclusin is that it  is most likely a conflice with the beta 330 driver and the game - other users have had no issues with the same peripherals  using 311.

    Anyone else had issues?
  • Nope works perfect also with the latest drivers. Is not a Fanatec "issue". I suggest to remove previous profiles in your R3E local folders and have the game detect the connected Fanatec gear and then do your button mapping etc. Then it should be fine without <device missing> messages.

    FYI: RaceRoom update is live with the latest Fanatec SDK and support for DD bases including LEDs
  • Thx! Just followed the exact same recommended DD1 settings as above. Heavy* but very rewarding and joyful

    *yep need to do some arm excercises
  • Seems to be working for me too now! It doesn't offer any wheel presets but does allow me to map controls.
  • Great settings to start with on csl elite ps4. just bumped spr, dpr to 120 and steering force intensity to 85 & it’s almost perfect.
    Thank you. Very useful post.

    Hello. Does anyone here know why I get sudden jolts in RaceRoom with the DD2? I've had it on straightaways where the wheel almost rips out of my hands (rarely), and it's happened during collisions where it spins right out of my grip. I've had collisions as low as 5% in FFB and it's still happened. Any ideas what it could be? I've used the recommended settings on these forums and even lowered some ffb but it still occurs. Any ideas what it could be?

    Thought I would share my settings after spending time getting the FFB to a good baseline. Tightens up the wheel a bit more and I find it gives more detail from physics. Keep in mind you will need to adjust the per car ffb to your liking.

    I've experienced the same thing with my DD1. Hit the wall and the wheel jolts out with excessively high force compared to other FFB.

    I too have experienced sudden jolts in Raceroom, hard to reproduce and infrequent.  It's also hard to explain but almost as if the FFB turns off for a second and the wheel becomes loose, resulting in you rotating it slightly, then it re-enables and feels somewhat mechanical like its hitting a metal stop.  I mainly notice it on fairly fast corners, in say 50 laps of Silverstone, I have had it happen twice on different parts of the track.. very weird.  Not felt it in other games, so suspect its a Raceroom issue ?!?

    It also seems to be a fairly recent thing, I don't recall feeling such previously.  I am using Fanalab and the latest drivers.

    Try FanaLab and activate Dynamic Damper. Also try NDP and NFR and when using Dynamic Damper also add DPR.
