Problem a,b,x,y pad on xbox/pc wheel

I've been using my csl elite wheelbase with xbox/pc wheel for over a year now without any problems. Last month I suddenly started to experience issues with the a,b,x,y pad. Button presses were no longer registered.

I found out if i pull down the wheel button pushes are briefly restored. But only until I turn the wheel. Ive update firmware on wheel, and base. Problem still persists. I suspect it is a malfunction in the connection, although the wheel is connected firmly to the base.

Any suggestions how to solve this problem? Cleaning the connections? Will wd-40 help?
