DD1 with World of Outlaws Sprint Cars 2002

I am going old school here but I am wondering if anyone knows how to use the DD1 with this or older games. My Logitech G29 worked well but I think that is because it can be registered as a generic wheel or controller as is. Does anyone know how to do this? I've seen one video so I know it works but no way to contact the video person. Thank you if you know. I love this game but hate to drag out the old soldier just to play it.

I should clarify that WoO Sprint Cars 2002 crashes when I open it with the DD1 on but if it's XBOX mode it doesn't but also will not register which I understand. The crashing portion is the confusing part and I believe it's because of the DD1 not registering as a generic device or controller.
