The QR2 interface is a modified Krontec, which has been available for around 10 years. It's used in DTM and GT racing. To bring the cost down for consumers(original Krontec are machined billet Al), I think Fanatec is casting the QR2. Probably there are production delays with the foundry.
Now that the M4 GT3 rim has been announced do we have any further clues as to the release date of the QR2? I just ordered my DD1 two days ago but it won't ship until at least 20th of December so I'm hoping I can get the QR2 included in the package.
No, not really, because the first wave of pre-orders will be shipped on Feb. 28th, all others will only be shipped at the end of September and I assume that the long-term availability will be there.
Yes, the first batch of BMW wheels gets shipped on 28th February - this however means that this is the official release date for that wheel. Just because the current shipping date is 21st September does not mean that the wheel gets released on that date when its already available for some 7 months earlier.
Also the September date is for the third (!) batch. There was even a second batch with a shipping date of 20th June (where my personal order is also in) which will be the date where most people will get the wheel... ;)
So to make it short: official release date for the BMW (not the QR2 though) is the 28th February in 25 days.
unfortunately I have to contradict you personally there is no wide availability so it's not a real release because it's not available in bulk so it's still presale! According to your reasoning, the release would have been when the first M4GT3 was delivered, since the steering wheel had to be available at that time, otherwise it would be difficult to drive with it! Accordingly, the QR 2.0 has already been released because it is already present in the car on the steering wheel side and steering column side, just not for the WB!?
So you say all items which are sold in waves and are not available in bulk means the product is not released?
And when September batch is sold out and the new date is sometime in 2023 then you say the official release date is sometime in 2023 or what?
You also say the same about the PS5 for example? That one also was not released yet because there is no availability in bulk?
Whats that for a logic?
Of course the product is officially released on the 28th February as first customers will get the wheel then. You cant say the wheel is not released because only some lucky people who were fast enough will get it shipped on that date and everyone else needs to wait until June or September.
no! You claim the release date is February 28th, but it was December 20th, 2021. If so, we should both stick to the facts! ;=) so where is your logic! and some buyers have already had the steering wheel beforehand and the QR2.0 so the whole discussion is irrelevant because it was already available for them but has not been officially released, however, as I said, the steering wheel was officially released for ordering on December 20th, 2021!
No. 20th December was not the official release date. It was the pre-order date.
Or do you also say that the PS5 was released on 8th September 2020 when they opened pre-orders?... No, it was officially released on 19th November 2020 (EU).
A release date is NEVER the date pre-orders went live but the date the product gets shipped to customers for the first time and that is end of February 2022. The race car teams do not count in this logic as of course they have the wheel earlier.
So the one and only true fact is: The BMW M4 GT3 wheels gets officially released to the public (!) on 28th February and not in September which was your first original Statement.
The Race Car QR2 Adapter however can not be mounted to a Fanatec Base so a second M4 GT3 would not help you with that and you would still need to switch the Wheel Side QR everytime you switch between Sim.and real car until the QR2 for the Base is released... :/
Comments
Sounds plausible, but still weird why they don't communicate with us.
Knowing the reason why and how long you have to wait would be better after the big Q2 teaser.

no, you cant...
It was said that more info on QR2 will follow soon but definetely it wont be included in your order.
Have you used this on the CSL DD then?
If so what differences apart from that do you see, has it eliminated the clunking people say about?
any updates or news about the QR2.0??
No.
I think he is asking Fanatec, not us mere mortals.
All I can say is: it looks quite promising :)
So this is the one for real?
Yes, because you can use the GT3 steeringwheel for simracing and the actual car. So that's the QR2 system.
Sep 21, 2022 should be the latest release date for the QR2 system, because that's the BMW steeringwheel releasedate.
Sadly there were no informations shared why everything got delayed, the innitial release was planned for Q2 last year...
Actually no.
The BMW release date is in 25 days on the 28th February.

Again no... :D

There is no further point to discuss this fact.
ok we as a racing team who owning an M4GT3 are no customers! cool then u are right and there is nothing to discuss anymore!
so then I'm waiting for your answer that you can have the last word! ;o)
Good ;)
Waiting here for the inevitable announcement that the February shipping is delayed due to supply chain issues. ;-)
Damn, that means I can't use the steering wheel for my real M4 GT3 car, or how am I supposed to connect the steeringwheel with an QR1 ?!
I have to cancel the preorder...
;)
Every car gets delivered with the wheel and QR2 Race Car Adapter version, no need to buy the wheel separately with a QR1.
;)
Ah it's even mentioned in the feature list:
''QR2 Wheel-Side included in price (shipped separately as soon as it is available)''
But then I have to switch the QR's everytime when I want to use it for the Sim... first world problems, I'm just gonna buy another M4 GT3.... ;D
The Race Car QR2 Adapter however can not be mounted to a Fanatec Base so a second M4 GT3 would not help you with that and you would still need to switch the Wheel Side QR everytime you switch between Sim.and real car until the QR2 for the Base is released... :/
Problem solved ;)
Almost one year later I'm back just to remind Fanatec of their ''Q2 2021'' releasedate :D
Well, here we go :D
Like anyone still cares! Anybody who spends money with Fanatec in 2023 and beyond is an idiot.
aha.
What are you still doing here then?
